Department of Medical Physics and Radiology Technology
History:
Until recent years, medical physics and radiology technology was considered to be one of the purely paraclinical fields, and involved using of mechanical and analog tools and devices, radiographic films with not very high sensitivity, contrast agents, and often invasive and painful methods for the diagnosis of diseases. But today, it is possible to diagnose diseases more accurately and quickly using modern imaging systems, including digital imaging devices, digital mammography, digital subtraction angiography, spiral computed tomography (SPIRAL CT), ultrasound, MRI and Color Doppler.
In the academic year 2009-2010, the University admitted the first group of students to the continuous bachelor’s program in radiology technology.
Perspective:
The students of this field, according to the scientific and specialized information in various fields of medical imaging, will be able to perform advanced imaging techniques in a more specific way.
Vision:
1) Laying the background for higher education in radiological sciences to prepare technologists to enter higher degrees;
2) Assisting students in gaining knowledge about national requirements related to radiography, nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy or one of the advanced imaging techniques;
3) Developing students' abilities to work as one of the members of the treatment team;
4) Creating advanced training opportunities in imaging techniques, nuclear medicine technology and radiation therapy for graduates;
5) Expanding the knowledge of learners through teaching new sciences and techniques; and
6) Enabling graduates to manage a radiology department in the areas of care, implementation and consultation.
Research priorities:
1) Increasing contrast and resolution in radiology and conventional images;
2) Improving radiology images using contrast agents in CT scans and MRI images;
3) Reducing scattered radiation in fluoroscopy, angiography and CT scan; and
4) Improving ultrasound images using contrast agents.
Educational facilities:
General Physics and Dosimetry Laboratory and conventional radiology units, fluoroscopy, stone crusher, dental x-ray, CT scan, MRI and ultrasound
